Peel the sweet potatoes then cut into 1/2" chunks or rounds.
Place the potatoes in the saucepan with sugar, butter, salt, and water. Then bring to a boil.
Cover then cook the sweet potatoes for 18 to 20 minutes
Once the sweet potatoes are fork tender, remove them from the pot leaving the sugar liquid.
Continue cooking the sugar syrup for an additional 7 to 10 minutes until it is bubbling and thickened.
Pour the syrup over the cooked potatoes before serving.
