BUTTERMILK BISCUITS

SCRAMBLEDCHEFS.COM

You'll love the buttery layers of this classic biscuit for a side or base to breakfast!

INGREDIENTS; Unsalted butter All-Purpose flour Baking powder Sugar Salt Baking soda Vegetable shortening Buttermilk

In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda until well mixed.  Then cut in the shortening until fine crumbs form.

Grate in the frozen butter then stir until the mixture is just combined.  You want the butter to remain in small pieces.  Be careful not to overwork the mixture.

Add the milk and stir together until a dough forms.  On a clean surface, roll the dough out into a rectangle then fold into thirds.  Repeat this process a total of three times.

Cut out the biscuits, then refrigerate for 15 minutes.  Bake until golden brown and puffed up.  Spread additional butter over the tops before serving.
