A simple dessert or breakfast treat, this spin on donuts is fantastic! A classic New Orleans treat you'll love!

prep: 10 minutes Rest: 2 hours cook: 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS NEEDED:  1 1/4 Cups Milk 1 1/2 Teaspoons Active Yeast 1/3 Cup Sugar 3 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour 1 Egg 2 1/2 Tablespoons Butter

In a large bowl, mix together the milk, yeast, and sugar.  Stir together. Then add in 1 1/2 cups flour and stir to combine.  Let this mixture stand for 5 minutes to allow the yeast to bloom.

After 5 minutes, add the egg and melted butter and stir to combine.  Then add in the remaining 2 cups of flour.  Stir and knead for 5 minutes until a smooth dough forms.  Cover to rest for 2 hours.

Roll the dough out and cut into squares that are 1/4" thick.  Heat oil in a large pan or a deep fryer and cook the beignets for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and puffed. 

Dust the hot beignets with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey. These are best hot but can be served at room temperature! A great breakfast or treat with coffee!
