The Best Southern Peach Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients

  • 10 peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. 
  2. Pour melted butter into the bottom of a 9"x13" baking dish. 
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, 1 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt and whisk together. 
  4. Gradually stir in milk and vanilla extract until combined. 
  5. Pour the batter into the baking dish over the butter but do not stir. 
  6. In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, combine the peaches, remaining brown sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest.  Peach pie filling in skillet
  7. Heat the peaches over medium heat stirring regularly for 4-5 minutes until the sugar has melted and peaches are beginning to release juice and break down. 
  8. Pour the peaches into the baking dish but do not stir. Peaches over batter in casserole
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. 
  10. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Spoon of cobbler with ice cream

Notes

If using frozen peaches, you may wish to thaw and then pat them dry before cooking down so there is not an excessive amount of liquid added.
