Garlic Butter Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Enjoy a bowl of these delicious garlic butter Crock Pot mashed potatoes! The perfect side dish to any of your favorite weeknight meals!

Ingredients

  • 5 Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into 2" pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, mashed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth (177 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (237 ml)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (113 g)

Instructions

  1. Wash potatoes and peel completely. 
  2. Rinse well to remove any excess dirt on the outside, and then cut into 1 1/2 to 2-inch chunks. Hand holding knife cutting potatoes on wooden board
  3. Smash the garlic cloves with the back of a knife to release the oils. 
  4. Line the slow cooker or grease the inside crock with unsalted butter or cooking spray. 
  5. To the slow cooker, add the potatoes and smashed garlic.
  6. Add salt, black pepper, and the chicken broth to the slow cooker with the potatoes and stir. Close up picture of raw potatoes and garlic with black pepper on top
  7. Cover and cook on high heat for 2 hours or low heat for 4 hours. 
  8. In a small saucepan, warm the cream and butter until the butter is melted and the cream is hot, but not boiling. 
  9. Use a potato masher or whisk to mash the potatoes and then whisk in the hot cream and butter mixture.  Mashed potatoes with milk and butter poured over top in slow cooker

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • If you prefer a more mild garlic flavor, you can remove the garlic cloves from the slow cooker before mashing.  
  • For a thicker mashed potato, you can drain or remove some of the chicken broth before mashing the potatoes with cream and butter.
